Bramling Cross is a rather rare breed and is mostly available in the UK. First harvested in 1927 at Wye College its lineage is a cross between Golding and a wild Manitoban (Canadian) hop. It is considered well suited to cask conditioned recipes as well as Christmas and fruit beers.Perhaps Brew Dog Brewery says it best when they speak of Bramling Cross as being “elegant, refined, assured, (boring) and understated”. They suggest people often don’t use enough of Bramling Cross to let its true flavors and eccentricities shine.When used in large quantities the fruity element in Bramling Cross springs to life. This use exhibits complex fruity notes of lemon, blackcurrant and pear, particularly when used as a late addition. BRU-1 is an experimental hop developed by John I. Haas and Brulotte Farms in the Yakima Valley. It is big and bold with a fruit-forward character that also offers clean bittering (13 - 15% AA). BRU-1 has a high Myrcene oil content that makes up over 50% of the total oil and contributes aromas of pineapple and stone fruit that is backed by a soft spice. Pale Ales and IPAs are the obvious styles, but might we are going to try brewing some funky Belgian styles. Centennial hops are a balanced bittering and aromatic hop with a decidedly American nature and uniquely pungent flavor. Riwaka smells strongly of passion fruit and citrus with elements of coniferous forest. Riwaka is the archetype for how New Zeeland Hop Character is defined.Unfortunately the Riwaka plants yields a very small harvest which combined with the high demand is the reason why we haven't been able to procure it for many years.Riwaka is excellent for when you want a distinct fruitiness, for example in an APA or IPA. It's also suitable for modern lager and saison.Riwaka, previously called D-Saaz, was developed by New Zeeland hop development program "Hops with a difference" in 1997 by crossbreeding Saaz with a couple of domestic hops. It quickly grew to be one of New Zeelands favorite hops, which is easy to understand once you've brewed with it.
